CBGB wird Modeboutique

varvatos.jpgEin Jahr nach Schließung hat der Designer John Varvatos das CBGB gemietet, um dort im März kommenden Jahres eine Modeboutique für gut Betuchte zu eröffnen.
Varvatos hatte bereits früher Iggy Pop für seine Vermarktungsstrategien engagiert, wie auf dem Bild von 2006 zu sehen ist.

Our philosophy is about reaching back to move forward. We have something different to say with a sensibility that is both old and new. There’s a vintageness and a modern edge to our clothes. We feel that the uniform is dead. Men are taking a more individualistic and personal approach to dressing. They are mixing dressy with casual, resulting in an eclectic look that suits their personality.

There’s definitely going to be a feeling that you’ve been there before,” Varvatos said of the space at 315 Bowery, where the familiar CBGB awning hung outside for 33 years. “I want to create something with a little bit of the heart and soul from what was there.”

“We’re not recreating CBGB … We’re not exploiting the name,” said the 52-year-old designer, who recalled seeing the Ramones in the now-shuttered club. The design for the space would make it a “rock and roll type of store,” with live bands featured once a month and clothing designed specifically for the Bowery outlet, he said.
