9:18 Comment From Mickey leigh

9:18 Comment From Ira Robbins

9:18 Comment From Dave Frey

9:19 Comment From MIckey Leigh

9:20 Comment From MIckey Leigh
Ok tell you ’bout the Bbash later.
9:21 Comment From Dave Frey
Then I was working at New Music Seminar and we had a show with Joey called New York Nights featuring Joeys picks of the best NY had to offer. Joey booked way too many bands for this show at RAPP Arts Center. On the bill was Dee Dee’s band, Cycle Sluts, and several others
9:21 Comment From MIckey Leigh
Dave, tell them about the Rapp Art Center show.
9:22 Comment From Dave Frey
At the last minute Joey calls and says there’s this awesome band that my manager (Andres Starr) manages and we figured out how to squeeze them in. For about 15 years I never knew that was Mickey’s band
9:23 Comment From Ira Robbins
Mickey, you and Joey had a band called Sibling Rivalry, right?
9:23 Comment From MIckey Leigh
Well, it wasnt a band , just a side project
9:23 Comment From Dave Frey
Anyway Joey insisted that the show be “catered” by Taco Loco on 2nd Ave. Taco Loco thought I was loco and said no “f&*ing way. So I had a bar back running out every 30 minutes to buy tacos’ that we sold on a fold up table
9:24 Comment From Ira Robbins
That’s rock and roll for you!
9:24 Comment From Ira Robbins
Mickey, how about the B Bash?
9:24 Comment From MIckey Leigh
what subject are we on?
9:25 Comment From MIckey Leigh
Ok
9:25 Comment From Dave Frey
He LOVED that and though it was a mess of a show EVERYONE was cool about everything because of him. nothing ran on time and that and he was the DJ and host but all said that is was cool because of Joey
9:27 Comment From Mickey
This is the 9th Birthday Bash we’ve presented since Joey, and though I kind of expected interest to drop off somewhat, it continues to roll on as strong as ever
9:27 Comment From Ira Robbins
Who, when and where?
9:27 Bandstores
JJ asks: Will Richie Ramone be performing at the Birthday Bash?
9:27 Comment From Dave Frey

9:28 Comment From Mickey

9:28 Comment From Ira Robbins

9:29 Comment From Mickey
As well as Fishbone , Supersuckers, and Tommy Ramone with his country, bluegrss band,
9:29 Ira Robbins
I love the fact that one of punk’s pioneers is now a bluegrass musician with a ponytail! Tommy Rocks!
9:29 Comment From Dave Frey
Also with Death, Uncle Monk (Tommy Ramone) Rough Francis, Bebe Buell, and Tom Clark and the High Action Boys
9:30 Ira Robbins
That’s a pretty great lineup. Are tickets still available?
9:30 Bandstores
Jerry Rubino asks: What time does it get underway?
9:30 Comment From Mickey
Maybe he was born a country musician and turned punk!
9:30 Dave Frey

Power Katie asks: Any big plans yet for the 10th annual Birthday Bash? I can’t make it this year. ![]()
9:31 Comment From MIckey
yes, big plans for the 10th one
9:31 Ira Robbins
Dave, tell us about your role in preserving and honoring Joey’s legacy
9:32 Dave Frey
I rely upon Mickey a lot to keep things on an even keel. Anything can be an opportunity if approached that way but if not, can be damaging
9:32 Ira Robbins
What sorts of things do you guys get asked about?
9:33 Ira Robbins
In terms of Joey’s legacy, I mena
9:33 Mickey
WHen will Ramones Doggie coats be available
9:33 Dave Frey
Selling bad merch that falls apart at Walmart
9:33 Ira Robbins
How awful.
9:34 Ira Robbins
How about a statue honoring him? He’s already got a street named for him, but where’s the sculpture?
9:34 Mickey
Keeping Joeys torch burning is quite
9:35 Mickey
a big job, many facets to it
9:35 Ira Robbins
I’m sure. You have a book coming out?
9:35 Mickey
I SLept WIth Joey Ramone
9:35 Ira Robbins
LOL
9:35 Mickey
will be out Dec 1 from Simon & Schuster
9:36 Ira Robbins
Is it a memoir?
9:36 Dave Frey
It’s really great. I was terrified that I was going to have to tell Mickey that it sucked, thank god it came out really really well.
9:36 Mickey
i had some help from your old pal Legs McNeil
9:36 Ira Robbins
good move!
9:36 Mickey
It is me telling his story from birth to death,
9:37 Mickey
sort of a memoir but also a biography, i call it a memography
9:37 Ira Robbins
so long as it’s not a mammography
9:37 Dave Frey
To me it’s almost two stories. The story of Jeff Hyman, then the story of Joey Ramone. I found it similar to the Bill Graham book which I loved
9:37 Mickey
inusrance would cover that
9:38 Ira Robbins
Tell the folks about the foundation set up in Joey’s name
9:38 Mickey
sorry having trouble typing as fast as you guys
9:38 Ira Robbins
no problem. you play guitar better than we do
9:38 Dave Frey
I got that one – give me one minute
9:39 Mickey
We set up the JOey Ramone Foundation for Lymphpma reaserach, all the money raised from the Bbash or anywhere else we can raise it goes to try and find a cure
9:39 Ira Robbins
[[[the match game theme is playing]]]
9:39 Mickey
thanks Ira!! the pressure is gureling
9:39 Ira Robbins
That’s great. I’m sure Joey would be proud to have his name associated with such important work.
9:40 Mickey
I think so
9:40 Mickey
I hope so anyway
9:40 Dave Frey
The Foundation was created as a place where proceeds from the Bash could be donated. Joey had done the Bash for years and it was a tradition that Mickey and Charlotte promised they’d continue. Each year has had it’s own set of challenges, starting with “should we do this again?” One of my favorite parts of the first one was when the ushers handed out “birthday cake” = Ringdings for 3.800 at the end of the show and there was a full scale Ringding war. People were covered, I think Joey would have loved the total chaos of it.
9:41 Ira Robbins
Yeuch! Sounds like Reggie Jackson Day at the Stadium in the ’70s! Let’s take some questions. Who wants to go first?
9:41 Mickey
That ring ding fight was fittingly begun by friends from FOrest Hills
9:42 Mickey
I’ll
9:42 Mickey
go
9:42 Dave Frey
Joey Ramone Foundation

9:43 Mickey
oh i thought i was asking the questions
9:43 Dave Frey
Joey Ramone Foundation For Lymphoma Research, PO Box 1107, Cooper Stn, New York, NY 10276
9:43 Ira Robbins
answer Jerry, than ask away yourself!
9:43 Mickey
Jerry, there is a second and most likely final Joey solo album in the works

Robert asks “can someone tell us what happened at the Rock Annex last week?”
9:44 Dave Frey
Joey

Finally after 7 years i compelled the Hall toro a re-presentation
9:45 Dave Frey
Joey’s Award was presented, and accepted
9:45 Mickey
there were many factors of why his award was not accpeted in 2002
9:46 Bandstores
Boris asks “Mickey, could you please tell more about Doreen Is Never Boring song that poped-[...]up on Joey’s message board?”
9:46 Mickey
One was the Hall screwed up the schedule, and the other was contention on the part of Johnny Ramone, he did not want my mother and I to come on stage twith the band
9:46 Mickey
IT has been rectified and we can close that chapter
9:47 Ira Robbins
Nothing was ever easy for / with the Ramones, was it?
9:47 Mickey
Boris, that song evolved into TOuring is NEver Boring,
9:48 Mickey
getting mad at each other seemed to be easy for them
9:48 Mickey
like you say , thats rock and roll

Linda writes: It’s a shame that I had to be a teenager in the 70′s and had no idea who the Ramones were. What a waste! I had heard the name mentioned (briefly…maybe twice) through the last decade but still didn’t get to listen to them. The radio stations didn’t play them so that was a factor. Stoopid radio!! Sorry I had to miss them! But I’m in the process of catching up and I am enjoying it! Thank you, Joey, for giving us the best years of your life and the best music. R. I. P., man. Thanks, Mickey, for all you do. You’re a class act. I plan a road trip north this summer through NYC and will bring along all my Ramones music to “introduce” my ride-alongs to! Different ages will be with me and I know they will love it. We must do what we can to keep the torch burning. I cannot attend this year but I PLAN to attend the 10th Bash. I don’t any music from Wal-mart, by the way! Any recommendations on where to shop for Ramones/ Joey merchandise are welcome.
9:49 Ira Robbins

Jerry Rubino says “I still consider one of the saddest moments I ever witnessed, was being at the Waldorf and as the rest of the band left the stage, Joey’s award was left there on it’s own. I’m so happy this Annex presentation put closure on it.”
9:49 Dave Frey
Also joeyramone.com has a pretty well stocked store

Pam says “I saw Maria Bartiromo on the Today show this morning and I laughed out loud! Am I the only person out there who thinks this song is genius? Joey was a genuis. I’m coming to NYC NEXT YEAR to honor his 10th. Thank you for keeping him alive in our hearts.”
9:50 Mickey
Yeah, that was one of the worst nights in my mom’s life, she said.
9:51 Mickey
Genious is in the eye of the holder of the IQ test
9:51 Mickey
whatever that means
9:51 Bandstores
Pete from NYC asks ” Do you think NYC misses CBGBs?”
9:51 Ira Robbins
Genius is writing “The KKK Took My Baby Away”
9:51 Mickey
I think CGBG misses NYC
9:52 Mickey
i THOUGHT GENIOUS WAS INVENTING ELECTRICITY OR SOMETHING
9:52 Ira Robbins
I was in there last week to see the Dolls, first time since the club closed, and yeah, it was weird. but i hadn’t seen so many well dressed people in there since the old days in the ’70s
9:52 Dave Frey
I think that NYC misses Hilly
9:53 Ira Robbins
But not the CBGB toilets!
9:53 Mickey
I miss all of it
9:53 Bandstores
Robert says “ra was in john varvatos’s store, not cbgb — nyc misses hilly a lot…and we do too”
9:53 Mickey
i dont think anybody had a career that spannedas many decades playing CBGB as me
9:54 Bandstores
Boris is following up from earlier. He says “Yea, I realise that. The question is why did Joey changed the name? Was it written specially for the Mystics? I’ve also heard about a song for the Ramones written by Leslie Gore.”
9:54 Dave Frey
Louise will vouch for that
9:54 Bandstores
Ger wants to ask “a question about Joey… does anyone know why he chose to record the song ‘what a wonderful world’? it was an awesome version by the way; his vocal gives me goosebumps every time…”
9:54 Mickey
started playing CBs in 77 with Lester Bangs and still played in the early00′s with my bad STOP
9:55 Mickey
my band STOP, and it wasnt bad

True Blue wants to ask you all “can you all speak to why the Ramones and particularly Joey still resonate with today’s young people and what do you account for their popularity so many years later???”
9:55 Ira Robbins
I think it’s because the songs are so great
9:56 Mickey
great songs, big energy, an attitude we all can trealate to
9:56 Mickey
relate to, sorry
9:57 Ira Robbins
Mickey, do you know why Joey recorded Wonderful World?
9:57 Bandstores
Jerry Rubino says he’s looking at 4 STOP demos on his wall right now!
9:57 Mickey
yeah
9:57 Bandstores
Louise says “Hilly’s idea of death… he liked to quote Woody Allen, ” I’m not afraid of death as long as it doesn’t happen to me.” He loved Joey and Mickey very much.”
9:57 Dave Frey
Joey loved music, the band had no “plan B,” and that resonates. And he knew more about music that just about anybody
9:59 Ira Robbins
If there are no more questions, maybe this would be a good place to wind things up.
9:59 Comment From Mickey
there were some jazzy songs and clasics like sinatras young at heart joey and i talked about in the 80′s i brought up louie armstrongs wonderful world, but forgot about it, fortnuately he didnt
9:59 Dave Frey
Thank you very much Ira

Freund von mir meinte, es sind 6 Stunden Unterschied, das wäre dann 21 Uhr.
Mai 16th, 2009 at 16:48
6 war auch mein erster Gedanke
, aber die Angabe EST ist Standardzeit (Winterzeit).
Ausgehend von der GMT:
EST = GMT-5
EDT = GMT-4 (Sommerzeit NY)
MEZ = GMT+1
MESZ = GMT+2 (Sommerzeit GER)
Nach GMT startet der Chat um 20 Uhr
NY (EDT) = 16 Uhr
GER (MESZ) = 22 Uhr
Ich schau aber vorsichtshalber doch schonmal um 21Uhr rein.
Mai 18th, 2009 at 21:14
geht gleich los, 21 Uhr war wohl richtig
